For some reason, I didn’t get the memo that The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had extended the timeline for Nigerian bank customers in the Diaspora to enroll for their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) to January 31, 2016. Luckily for me, I’d visited my cousin who was kind enough to mention. However, I already had an appointment for the following day and I figured it’d be best to get the process over and done with.
Fast forward to my appointment this past Saturday (11/7/2015), and the Naija factor happened. The center was understaffed and unprepared and I was asked to come back the following week.
I’d assumed I’d be stranded and dealing with customer service would take forever, but I called the Zenith Direct number (+234 1 292 7000), and within a couple of minutes I was all set!
So my fellow diaspora brethren, if you’ll be visiting home for Christmas I’d suggest you just wait till you get to Naij and save yourself the stress and $45. My assumption is that most, if not all, Nigerian residents should have completed the BVN process by December so it shouldn’t take too long for us “Christmas visitors” or “IJGBs” to complete the process (unless, of course, Naija factor happens)…
