The Port Harcourt University Medical Student Association (PUMSA) decided to take us on a tour of Port Harcourt (PH). Basically, their idea of a tour was to take us to the PH mall which, in my opinion, wasn’t a bad idea IF they’d subsidized our activities. Wishful thinking.
Anyways, after chilling at Debonairs in the mall, my friends and I decided to check out the 9D Cinema located on the 3rd floor. Basically, I have seen 2D, 3D and 5D in Lagos at Ground Zero. I am also well aware of the 7D film showing at Ground Zero, however, I am yet to check it out.
While 5D involves the viewer feeling what’s going on in the clip, we were told 9D involves our participation in the clips and of course we were pretty excited. The signage looked really appealing and although we had doubts, we still went ahead to watch it.
Now The 9D cinema hall seats about 9 people. A 9D clip at the cinema lasts between 4 – 15 minutes and costs 1000 Naira per clip/session. However, we were able to convince the operator to play 2 clips for the same price of 1K. We were given 9D glasses and encouraged to fasten our seat belts (although some seats didn’t have seat belts). My friends without seatbelts complained and they were told to hold on to the seats as some form of protection.
Anyways, the scary clip began. It was a roller coaster ride and it was a total waste of 4 minutes. I mean, at first I was confused because I didn’t understand what was going on. I guess I expected a whole lot from the 9D because the 5D was AMAZING!
4 minutes later, the “scary” clip ended and our sadness began. Next up was the adventure clip and we were literally praying to at least enjoy half of our money’s worth. Unfortunately, the adventure clip was worse! It was basically a jungle clip with snakes and other wild animals. Tbh, I was pretty disappointed. We all came out lamenting and pained because we had just wasted 1K.
I have learnt my lesson. I am not falling for any 9D and above scam in Nigeria again. I am rating the 9D Cinema a 2 over 10 because:
- The seats belts were missing in some chairs
- It was just a total waste of money as there was no content
