Addide is a supermarket that opened shop in Lagos in 2008. They’ve grown so large that they have about 16 other branches across Lagos. Their pioneer store is the branch at Akoka, and that’s the branch I happened to visit. The shop is quite alright but they don’t have a good variety of products. For example, they didn’t have as much cereal as I expected. I wanted to get Coco Crunches by Kellogg’s but ended up getting Milo Crunches because the only Kellogg’s product they had was the normal Cornflakes. Only plus is that their products are cheap, as in VERY cheap so no complaints there.
This particular location is quite small both inside and outside. The parking lot can only take 4 cars and in the end, one has to park on the road and cause traffic. The female cashier who checked me out was a bit scary. I can’t quite place my fingers on it, but she was really weird. My total was #600 and I gave a #1000 note expecting #400 change. Turns out they didn’t have ANY change. Instead of the cashier to think of what else to do, she practically forced us to buy more items. We ended up spending more than we planned.
Apart from the small parking lot, the weird cashier, & the lack of change and product variety, Addide at Akoka is actually a good place to shop because of the huge difference between their prices and those of their competitors.
Can’t believe I’m just finding out about this. I’ve only ever driven past it and I never really noticed it but it seems that they are an expanding brand taking advantage of the low-end middle class market which in a city like Lagos is just brilliant. When next I’m in Lagos, I’ll be sure to swing by and write a review afterwards. Good stuff!
LOL. Nice!
