I heard about the Coke Studio concert a while back. I wasn’t really interested because the show was free and it was in UNILAG, and free shows in UNILAG = trouble. All those trouble makers will now come and cause wahala.
Then I heard King Badoo aka Olamide and Iyanya were coming. I had to rethink. I’m a huge fan of these two great artistes and felt like I should go support them. I told some of my friends about it, and they all agreed to come along. And that, my friends, was how we found ourselves at the outdoor part of the Unilag Sports Centre.
Coke Studio decided to have concerts on several university campuses; LASPOTECH, LASU, UNIBEN and about 7 other schools, to ” reinvent the way music can capture the spirit of a nation, opening hearts and minds, and of course, Happiness.” promote their brand on campus.
The Unilag event was scheduled to start 5pm. Arriving at 5pm would have been way too early! First of all, it’s a concert and the audience will be standing. So except they are paying me I see no reason why I should start the event with them! LOL. #ImProudLikeThat
We arrived “fashionably late” by 7pm and they were still having rap battles and the “legendary” dance competition where some babes came to do what they know how to do best: twerk.

The MC was Elenu and he did a very good job. He had the audience laughing and my friends and I even forgot we had exams around the corner. Then it was time for the artistes to perform.
FalzTheBahdGuy came up first and decided to perform Currency . He received some blank stares at first because the audience didn’t really know that song, but I think he noticed and switched to High Class !!! I was literally screaming along! I was impressed by his performance and he looked good too.
The next performer was Patoranking. The long awaited Patoranking!!! He started off by giving a speech about how he likes LAG students because we’ve always been there for him. He performed Alubarika , and people really liked it. I didn’t though. Then he sang Emergency , and I was confused because I thought the song was by Wizzypro. I’m sorry, I digress! He then took off his shirt…showing us clean white briefs, and danced Shoki to Girlie O . His Shoki is just too awesome!
Patoranking!!
Reminisce came up next. I totally love reminisce…the Alagba Ibile himself!!! He performed some of his songs and rounded up with Kako Bi Chicken , a mad tune! Btw, Reminisce is too fresh, and did y’all know he is the new face of Samsung mobile? *sigh*

Triple MG arrived, and Emma Nyra was up on stage. First of all, I like Emma Nyra. I think she is trying to make it in the tough Nigerian music industry, where we have the likes of Seyi Shay, Waje, Tiwa and so on. But, I didn’t enjoy her performance. I didn’t understand where she got her dancers from. They were, in one word, PATHETIC. She tried so hard to make the crowd enjoy her performance, but trust Unilag students, they kept on throwing coke bottles. I felt sad tbh.

Selebobo performed his Alele song, which everybody liked, and decided to perform his Selfie song . Sigh. Terrible mistake! People lost interest almost immediately.

Tekno (@TeknoMiles) came up, also from Tripple MG. He talked for like forever! Explained how he was going to resume school in UNILAG and how we always support him and so on. Then he sang one of his new songs and ended his performance with Dance , which I liked.
Iyanya!!!!!!!!!! The guy after my heart finally came up. He is sooo hot!!! I literally wanted to jump on stage. But as a classy lady, I composed LOL 🙂

Iyanya performed so many songs….I cant even start listing. He asked for a babe to dance on stage to “Your Waist” and a babe did, and intimidated all of us girls with big things.. lol…you know what I mean 😉 Iyanya’s performance was wonderful!!!!
Then wahala started o! People were running towards my direction, only for me to hear that the KING had arrived! Olamide was in the building! Bouncers were with baseball bats, policemen were with loaded guns. It was a serious something!!!
Chidinma (@ chidinmaekile) Miss Kedike came up to perform right after Iyanya. She was asking for her Mr Kedike, then one very BRAVE guy came up, and was asked by the crew to leave the stage loool. She performed along side some Ratchets babes, who were dancing, I was really confused.
Then time came for the king himself to perform!! And he started with the hit song, and my favorite, A WON GOONS MI …and the crowd went crazy! Olamide performed some other songs, but I had to leave because I was so sure it was going to be rowdy after his performance.
That was the end of the much anticipated Coke Studio Concert, UNILAG version. To crown it all, the rain that fell that day after the performance was not of this world! I had my own fair share of getting drenched!!
Take Our Poll
Chai. Laughing @ d dude who was asked to leave d stage. That is sooooo wrong.
Olamide badoo! I like the awon goons mi song ! Very “frosh”. What is tbh ?
tbh = to be honest 🙂
