In my department at work, we try to have a quarterly team bonding event. For Q1 2016, we narrowed down to two options – visit an art gallery or attend a culinary class. We eventually decided to go with the class at Culinary Academy in Ikoyi.

We got there at about 7pm on a Thursday. Decent parking for about 5/6 cars. There were 8 of us (including two guys) on my team so we were split into two groups.

Most of the prep work had already been done so we pretty much just had to do the cooking. We prepared a 3 course meal.

Starter – Potato & Leek soup with Thyme Croutons & Chilli Oil Emulsion
Main meal – Herb Encrusted Chicken, Vegetable Rice Pilaf & Sweet Chilli Sauce
Dessert – Pineapple Crumble with White Chocolate Sauce.

We were done at about 10pm so took a little over 3 hours (would definitely have been longer if most of the prep work hadn’t been done). The instructor was great, she was patient and generally knew her stuff.

Initially, we didn’t have very high expectations because we had a long day at work and really wanted to relax and not have to do any hard work (cook). Surprisingly, my team had a great time (especially the guys who were initially grumbling about not wanting to cook) – it was actually a very fun team bonding activity and it was great to prepare the meals together and then wine & dine together (they had really good red wine). All the food tasted great but my team’s food tasted better than the other team’s ;-). I promised myself that I would try the recipes at home some day.

I definitely would do this again with a group of people and recommend this to colleagues, family and friends. Overall rating 9/10.
