My mother was so excited to open a savings account at Diamond Bank and tbh I had no idea why. We decided to head over to the Isheri Branch as it was the closest to our location.
The Diamond Bank Isheri building is quite small. We got there around 11am and the security guards were courteous and very polite, especially to my mum. They helped with the lockers where metal valuables are kept. By the time we got inside, the banking hall was crowded. We headed straight to the customer care section and made enquires. Even the customer care attendant was really swamped with work but I was really impressed because she didn’t have any type of negative attitude.
She introduced us to another attendant who explained the types of savings account they had. There was the normal Diamond Savings Account and the Diamond Extra. Both accounts required an opening balance of 1,000 Naira and 5,000 respectively. My mum was pretty convinced by the attendant’s “sweet mouth” and wanted to open the Diamond Extra but I did a good job convincing her to open the normal savings account. Apart from the 1,000 Naira opening balance, we still had to pay 1,050 naira for the debit card. All the payments were not done over the counter, but were given to the attendant.
The entire process to open a new Diamond Bank account took about 30 minutes and it was basically filling out forms. They assured us that the account number would be sent by the next day. We waited a while before receiving the account number. In fact, it took 5 days for us to receive the account number!! My mother had already started to freak out because she thought we’d been scammed..lol!
I personally don’t have a Diamond Account and I sincerely doubt I will open one because the process was quite stressful, especially in comparison to my experience opening accounts with other banks. I will rate the Diamond Bank Isheri branch a 6 over 10. It makes no sense to receive your account number 5 working days after opening the account!
P.S The ladies room was a mess. There was no water to flush, so you can imagine what I found in the toilet.
