Iya Ruka Bukka is located in a food complex named PZ in college of medicine, UNILAG. PZ is short for Poison Zone. I’ve always wondered why it’s called Poison Zone because it’s one of the safest places to eat in my opinion. I’ve never had a case of cholera or diarrhea.
Iya Ruka is the first stall on the left. In fact, her stall is pretty easy to locate as there is always a queue! She sells her food outside, and there is a small sitting area inside the stall.
Iya Ruka is a Quality over Quantity advocate. She serves smaller portions compared to the other eatries, but her food is the sweetest. Her customers are not limited to students or staff of the school; people from far and near purchase her food as well.
Iya Ruka is a hard working woman and her food is usually ready within the hours of 8-9am, and she typically closes around 2pm.
Her food, although smaller in portion compared to other eateries in the complex, is still very cheap. A spoon of rice cost about 50 naira, beans – 20 naira upwards, egg – 40 naira, plantain – depends on quantity, and a piece of meat/ponmo is 20 bucks!!! Super affordable! However, the menu isn’t too extensive and pretty much ends with what I’ve listed.
Another reason why I like Iya Ruka, apart from the fact that her food is delicious, is she always has change!! All you other Naija businesses, take note oh! If Iya Ruka can have change, why won’t you?
Iya Ruka speaks yoruba and pidgin so you would have to work with her to place your order. Also, she never smiles so don’t mistake it for an attitude. I’ve come to understand that she’s just one of “those people”.
I will rate Iya Rukka an 8 over 10. Her food is just too amazing, but she needs to smile more often though.
PS – If you’re visiting Iya Ruka for the first time I highly recommend her white rice and stew. It’s simply delicious!
