I got my last pair of glasses at Military Hospital in Yaba. I went there on a friend’s recommendation after she told me I would get a good value at a fair rate.
At the hospital you’ll need to purchase a card for N2,000 before you are attended to.
Next comes the eye test to diagnose the severity of your eye challenges. This took less than fifteen minutes. Thereafter I was asked to the waiting area where my test results were complied. The lady who attended to me asked if I wanted to purchase a frame independently or go with the hospital stock. I went with the former since I had already bought a frame. The bill I was given was too high so I negotiated in half. I told her I didn’t have the money and I’ll pay in full when I am collecting my glasses.
She gave me a time to collect my glasses two days after. While I was leaving another staff called me secretly to advise me I should insist on a receipt for all payments.
The day I went to pick up my glasses I called the girl who attended to me as soon as I arrived at the hospital gate. She told me not to come in, she was going to send someone to the gate with my glasses and I can pass the money to the person. I questioned this arrangement and she said it was for my own good else I was going to pay the first price she gave me. She was only trying to help me. A domestic staff came for the money and passed me glasses.
I didn’t care enough to inquire if she was doing me a favor or I was cheated. I was just glad my eye dilemma was solved.
