I rarely watch Nigerian movies but a friend recommend North East to prove to me that there are good Nigerian movies out there.
North East Synopsis:
n Igbo Chriistain Pyshiotherapist embarks on a romantic relationship with one of his clients, who is a Hausa Muslin, only to face vehement opposition on the basis of religion and ethnicity from her father who expressly forbids her from seeing him. OC Ukeje, Gbenga Titiloye, Ini Dima-Okojie, Carol King, Saeed Funky Mallam. Written, Produced and Directed by Muyiwa Aluko”
Really though, North East wasn’t a bad movie, but it wasn’t a great movie either.
What I liked:
– I actually really liked the idea of the story and what they were trying to achieve. I think Nigeria would definitely be a better country if we could all see through the ethnic and religious divides. : The storyline
– I thought this was pretty decent. My fav character was definitely Alhaji Musa Ahmed (played by Gbenga Titiloye). Gbenga is such a good actor!!! Plus, I found his character very funny and hypocritical! : The acting
What I didn’t like:
– from the beginning! Wasn’t cool at all! Ruined the entire movie for me. T he movie was too predictable
– Too many unnecessary scenes and the dialogue among characters wasn’t the greatest…like this story could have been told in an hour, or an hour and a half max! The movie was too long!
Overall, I rate this movie a 5/10. It didn’t capture my attention the whole time….but I like where they were trying to go with the storyline. The execution just didn’t do it for me.
