I’m an upwardly mobile person, (sounds good to say that tho). I was recently complaining about the regular price surge on Uber , then my friend introduced me to Oga taxi.
Oga taxi is an indigenous taxi company similar to Uber that offers services in Lagos and Abuja for now. There are three classes of rides available; standard, deluxe and executive ride. The app is available for download on Apple and Google app stores.
My first experience
There was a surge on Uber , and I couldn’t wait for rates to drop so I immediately downloaded the app and filled my details. I opted for a cash ride as I had difficulty adding my card.
The app shows you the available driver and his/her details (name, picture, phone number ), the plate number and car model and the approximate pick up time. A fare estimate can also be requested prior to requesting a cab.
After requesting my cab, I got a call immediately from my driver confirming my location and in less than 10 minutes he was in front of my dorm. Once I got into the car the trip began.
My cab was a fine Toyota corolla and my driver’s name was Emmanuel. He was super polite and very careful. We finally got to the destination (he was super slow) and the trip ended. I paid 2,800NGN. (Trip would have cost 2,100 – 2,500NGN with Uber without the surge).
My second experience
There was another surge on Uber and I was in a hurry to get to my destination. I requested for an Oga taxi cab and in minutes, it was in front of my dorm. Apparently, Uber drivers also drive with Oga taxi. I realized this because I had had the same driver in the past, but via Uber.
Anyways, my fare estimate was about 1,800 – 2,700NGN but on getting to my destination, I was to pay 4,900NGN. There was no traffic or stop so I was pretty confused.
Luckily for me, I had enough cash and paid. I lowkey made a vow not to use them again.
Fast forward, 24 hours later, I got an email informing me that my ride was miscalculated and a refund was in order. I was super excited.
The next day, I received a call from the Oga taxi managing director. He apologized and explained it was all an error and the driver conveniently forgot to report it.
Anywho, I was refunded the balance within a few hours.
I will rate Oga taxi an 8/10. I’m glad that it’s an indigenous organization. The service is very decent, as you can even call to request a ride (feature not available on Uber ). I was super impressed with how keen they were to refund my money.
It’s really. Crazy I thought oga taxi should be a cheap ride mehn it’s very annoying I took oga taxi from marina uba down to lekki agungi just for him to stop the trip my money was 5,139 I was shocked v deleted der app asap
