I was invited to host an event which took place at Planet One Hotels, Ikeja and I was pretty excited! By the time I arrived at the venue I was hungry and it didn’t seem like the show would start on time, so I decided to try out the hotel’s restaurant.
AMBIANCE/DÉCOR
The décor is just there, nothing spectacular. Just lots of chairs and tables. The restaurant doubles up as a bar as well. When I arrived there was no music or television on, everywhere was quiet and for the first time, I wasn’t bothered.
I was impressed with the lightning. I love lights and really can’t stand the dim lighting a lot of restaurants have these days.
Table Setting
FOOD
Entrees cost 2,000 naira to 6,000 naira, while appetizers cost 1,500 naira to 3,000 naira. I’d planned to order rice and curry chicken, however, it was going to take quite some time for that meal to be ready. I was on the verge of passing out; I was that hungry! So the waiter suggested chicken and chips which cost 2,500 naira. I was quite confused because chicken and chips was not on the menu. In fact, my “Owa instinct” was telling me the guy might have inflated the price!
It took about 20 minutes for the food to arrive and I must say… THIS IS THE BEST CHICKEN AND CHIPS I’VE EVER HAD!
I want moreeee….
The chicken was well seasoned and garnished with bell peppers. It was so tender and properly fried/grilled (I couldn’t tell) but it was sha amazing!
I must confess, the chips were quite a lot for 2k5 o! And it was fried well (i.e. no oil residue). I hate seeing oil residue from fried chips on my plate!
Amazing Dinner
DRINKS
Cocktails range from 1,000 naira to about 2,500 naira, and they also offer a selection of wines. I wasn’t in the mood for any special drinks so I had a bottle of water which cost 350 naira.
SERVICE
The service was okay. The waiter at the bar had an attitude though, but I waved it off. The other guy who attended to me was really friendly yet straight to the point.
I didn’t like the fact that I was rushed while eating because they were about to close. I was told it was a 24hr restaurant, but I had to rush my food so that they wouldn’t lock me in!
My bill was 2,850 naira and I wanted to pay via POS, but the machine kept on rejecting my card. Can you imagine!?!? I had to cross the dangerous Ikeja road in the middle of the night to withdraw money from a nearby atm.
Cashless Nigeria Indeed!
I tendered 3,000 naira and of course there was no change. Major disappointment! I had to look for 400 naira so they’d give me 550, but they still didn’t have 50 bucks….so I left it as a “tip”.
RATING
I’ll rate the Restaurant an 8 over 10. The food was delicious, however the service and decor were just there.
Couple of things though:
1) I think they should look into their POS machine! My card has never been rejected at other retailers.
2) The space as is is alright, but I think they can definitely do a lot more with it.
3) Their toilets don’t have locks! It was really annoying and quite embarrassing when one of the cleaners barged in during my personal time.
I will probably visit Planet One again mainly because I totally enjoyed the Chicken and Chips.
Siege, thanks for your comment.. Lol it was much tbh, I was just too hungry.. And yes! They need to do something about the locks, it was pretty annoying. Meal was good tho
