How did we end up at Switch Lounge and Grill?
We were looking for “product”. Lol. For real though, a friend recommended Switch Lounge and Grill because of the outdoor ambience.
Switch is mostly an outdoor space with a bar and benches with tables. I visited on a Friday night and it seemed to cater to older folks (40s upwards). There was music playing in the background; a mix of international and Nigerian music. There was also a projector and I believe a movie was showing on the screen, but we weren’t really interested.
Shisha
Switch has an indoor and outdoor space. There’s no smoking indoors over here (yaaay!). We opted to sit outside because we were going to try their shisha, which turned out to be really good!! I hear you can spike the shisha here for an additional cost.
Drinks
The mojito I ordered first was pretty poor. I mentioned this to the waiter and he replaced it without any qualms ??????. Tried the Long Island and it was decent. I can’t generalize but I get the sense that cocktails aren’t their thing here.
Food
We ordered the grilled catfish and lamb chops. The lamb chops were yummy! Tasted like they used yaji (suya pepper) to prepare it. But the garnishing was a bit suspect (see pictures in the photo gallery). The grilled fish, on the other hand, was just there. Doesn’t come close to the grilled fish at Sao Cafe or Farm City.
Overall
I had a good time at Switch Lounge and Grill. I probably won’t return because it’s not really my kind of spot. It’s a much older crowd here and the music didn’t really get me excited. Switch is also one of the first Nigerian establishments that didn’t make a fuss when I returned a menu item that was below my expectations. Now, that, I sincerely appreciated.
PS – Parking here isn’t the greatest. The space can comfortably fit about 8 or so cars outside. Street parking is available.
Switch has a relaxed ambiance, perfect for Friday nights. The shisha is nice and the you can watch football with friends. I don’t particularly fancy the food but my boyfriend likes the lamb chops. I’d give it 3 stars, I’m more of a 355 girl: AC, music, margaritas
