The Meeting is a 2012 movie about a project manager, Mr. Makinde Esho, who had to see the Minister of Lands in Abuja. But trust Naija, it’s government job, so they’d treat contractors anyhow and there’s really no one to report to.
Anyway, after landing in Abuja Makinde meets Ejura, a very lively youth corper, who pleads for a lift. At first, Makinde is up tight in the car and tries not to start a conversation, but Ejura never takes no for an answer and keeps discussing with him. She gets off at her stop and Makinde heads over to his meeting.
Of course, when meeting up with someone at the top in Naija Government, the main person to please is the secretary; he/she can make or mar your appointment. One scene in the movie shows how Clara, the very “efficient” secretary to the Minister, called security to escort a reputable man out of the premises. LOL! Anyway, Clara, played by Rita Dominic, makes it very difficult for Makinde to see the Minister, and his one day Abuja stay turns into a 5 day stay! And of course, Ejura is there to support Makinde and keep him company. Obviously, they fall in love, even though Makinde is 20 years older than Ejura…after all, age does not matter when it comes to love..abi?
THE GOOD
Rita Dominic is just, in two words, A DIVA! I sincerely doubt that some Nigerian actresses could have pulled Clara’s character off. Rita actually played the part so well – from the looks to the accent to even the chewing of gum!
I also like how the movie points out some of the issues in our society, e.g. in one scene Makinde complains about how one needs to drop egunje (bribe) before they can see the Minister, and he stands his ground about not dropping anything. But of course, he did succumb eventually and didn’t really benefit from this.
My favorite part of the movie was when Clara, while actively frustrating the individuals waiting to see the Minister, announced that she sold recharge cards! HAHAHA! I could so see this happening in reality to be honest. I also liked Femi Jacobs scenes!! I completely have a major crush on him though.
Overall, majority of the cast actually performed very well, and I personally believe the make up artist deserves an award for such creativity.
THE UGLY
I was disappointed because some scenes which required subtitles lacked them and I couldn’t really figure out what they were saying. I also didn’t really feel Linda Ejiofor’s (Ejura) acting…this is just my opinion oh! I felt her acting was a little forced.
MY RATING
I will rate the movie a 7 over 10. I loved watching the movie. It’s very funny and perfect to watch/crack me up whenever I’m sad. I just wish they actually edited the movie a little more.
Watch trailer and movie here for $3.50
I watched this movie at a friends house sometime in July. Cracked me up so much, i took it home played it for my mum and my sister. I dont think any other person in Nollywood can pull Clara’s stunt. I’m Igbo, so i could understand some of what Rita was saying. I give it a 9.
Hey Efe and Sandra, what does the “G” in your names mean?
Btw! Very funny movie ! I saw it at the cinemas. I ll rate it a 7.5
heyy. yea. G.. as per surname.
just a shortened version of the last name 🙂
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! Sandra 7 though? I think I’d have given this one like an 8.5. I think the acting was ok but the story line was interesting and yeah Clara was quite the character! Cracked me up so so so much…will definitely recommend this movie (and yes I paid the money to watch it…felt like they should get their money)…
Lol. I got the DVD from a friend. It was really worth my time. Rita Dominic has raised the bar.. A 7 cos some of the abuja scenes didn’t add up. Even some graduation scenes didn’t add.
