My friends and I were changing our dorms. Sadly, I was leaving my place in Yaba for
a shithole not-so-greener-pastures accommodation on campus. The new room on campus was virtually empty so furnishing was completely out of pocket and the first thing we had to do was get a mattress for our bunks.
Mattresses were being sold on campus for “Awoof” prices but we were interested in getting original mattresses from Nigeria’s best, Vitafoam. Quality is better than quantity, right?
I did some research on where to buy good mattresses and found the Vitafoam comfort center in Surulere so I decided to give them a try.
Before heading over, I called the customer care line and spoke to a guy/sales manager for the branch. He explained the only option was pay before delivery and the type of mattress we were looking for, the 6 inches high student sized mattress, cost 5750 Naira. He also explained free delivery was only for purchases over 20,000 Naira. I was going to buy about 6 mattresses and that cost 34,500 Naira in total, so delivery was going to be free.
Getting to the comfort center was pretty easy. There is very large signage and the center is opposite Filmhouse and Dominos Pizza in Surulere.
The Vitafoam comfort center in Surulere is quite big with a lot of samples. I met a lady at the front desk and I relayed the details of the phone conversation I had earlier with the sales manager. She was already beginning to change prices on me and was saying delivery is only for purchases that are 40k and above. I sharply called the sales manager I’d spoken with earlier on and he arrived promptly.
I discussed with the sales manager, checked out a sample and paid the initial price with cash although POS was available. I also decided to get a pillow for 1,050 Naira. Pillows range from 850 – 3000 Naira.
I was told delivery would take about 1-3 working days but my items arrived the next day which was a Saturday.
I will rate Vitafoam an 8 over 10. I’m glad they have a comfort center around my area, however, the sales attendant that was trying to rip me off was a bit of a turn off.
